FACTORS AFFECTING THE TIMING OF PUBERTY: GENETIC, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND SOCIAL ASPECTS
Abstract
A person reaches puberty in the prime phase, when the sex glands become active and changes in body weight and shape are observed. There are differences depending on the sex, as well as social conditions, race, geography and other factors that play a role in the onset of puberty. One of them is that for girls, the body mass index plays a major role in the onset of puberty, while for boys it is the opposite. Excess weight in boys can lead to stunted growth, and in girls, it can accelerate the onset of puberty. Sports and physical activity also have a great influence. For example, it has been noted that gymnasts experience a delay in the onset of puberty and menstrual irregularities. Sports can cause hormonal imbalances that can lead to stunted growth. Slow growth of the pituitary gland plays a leading role in delaying the onset of puberty, as well as psychological and social condition. It has been noted that girls experience a delay in the onset of puberty if their psychological condition is disturbed. In addition, psychological illnesses and drug abuse play a significant role in this process. Therefore, the environment, heredity, nutrition, physical activity and hormonal background play a fundamental role in decreasing or increasing the age of puberty.

An author should not normally publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in multiple journals or publication venues. Such redundant publication is generally considered to constitute unethical publishing behavior, and if discovered may result in a manuscript under consideration being rejected, or a published article being retracted.
Authors of manuscripts reporting on original research should present an accurate account of the work performed, accompanied by an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. The fabrication of results and the making of fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and may be cause for rejection or retraction of a manuscript or published article.
